Are you looking for cheap mattresses online, but you haven't really got a clue where to begin? It all sounded so easy at the start, didn't it?

We now have far more options than we once did when it comes to buying the things that we need. In the past we'd go down to the local BHS - or the like - and that was about it; you may have had a small local shop that sold mattresses, or, if you couldn't stretch the budget too much, there was always the cheap mattresses that you could get second hand - not that too many people wanted to admit that they actually bought from those places, but they managed to stay in business somehow.

Since then, of course, many of the companies that sell cheap mattresses have started selling them online; giving you the perfect opportunity to find the one that's going to be right for you; no matter where the UK mattress shop may be. In fact, you'll even find that many of the major manufacturers also have their own websites, and while buying direct sounds like a good idea, it isn't always going to be the best way of getting cheap mattresses.

When it comes to finding the right UK mattress shops, there are a number of things that you have to take into consideration; for instance, is the company just selling off end of line, or overstocked mattresses from other companies?

If the cheap mattresses are end of line, or excess stock being sold by a third party, then you may be limited in what you can actually get from them. If you have specific needs from your mattress i.e. you might be after a memory foam mattress; you may find that they don't have them in stock. What you'll get will all be down to what they're able to source from other companies that have cheap mattresses to sell.

By now you're bound to have seen at least one of the ads on TV that explain the benefits of using a comparison site (the one with the meerkat being a personal favourite), but did you know that they can show you far more options than which electricity company is going to be the cheapest? There are comparison sites that will let you check out the prices of a whole range of things; so this may be a good place to start when looking for cheap mattresses online.

If you don't find a comparison site that's going to help, and you decide to go all 'Sherlock' to find your new mattress, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind.

You need, of course, to make sure that you know the proper dimensions of the mattress that you're looking for; that will save you a lot of time right from the start. Yes, it does sound obvious, but when you discover that there are sizes like, small single, single, small double, double, king-size,  super king-size and variations there of - the Americans even have an extra long twin size - then you can see why getting the tape measure out now is a good idea.

Another thing that you'll need to remember to do is to factor in the cost of delivery. You may find one or two UK mattress shops that deliver for free, and the mattresses may be slightly more expensive than some of the others that you've looked at, but when you add on the cost of delivery, are those 'cheap mattresses' still looking quite as good?

One other place that you could try is an online auction site. True, not all of the cheap mattresses on there are going to be new, but, if they haven't been used too often, they can still be a good buy compared to some of the UK mattress shops.

So, if you're interested in cheap mattresses, and used isn't really doing it for you, then it's time to see what's available online. You may want to do your own comparisons, or see if another site can do it for you, but with a bit of time and effort, your search for cheap mattresses online could be put to bed.
